One of our favorite verses, 1 Thessalonians 2:13, says, "For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the WORD OF GOD, which also EFFECTIVELY WORKS in you who BELIEVE." (NKJV)
The discipleship groups are going very well and we are, once again, seeing the truth of the verse we quoted being fulfilled before our very eyes. In one of the groups, we had the opportunity to baptize four people in water and to see them baptized in the Holy Spirit. Their lives have been changing drastically. One of the individuals, through the ministry of the Word and being baptized in the Holy Sprit has had the Lord reveal His purpose for her life. How exciting to see the Word of God change and touch people's lives in such a short period of time. Another individual's husband (even though he isn't part of the group) has thanked me for what we've been teaching his wife because he has noticed a difference in her life. Praise God!
Another instance where we saw this verse being fulfilled, was when we were at a shopping center, going about our normal daily lives. It was one of those days where nothing was going very well and I (Sean) didn't really want to be bothered. I just wanted to get what we needed and go home. We know that you've never had one of those days!!
As we entered the shopping center, there was a Zulu lady and her young daughter sitting at the entrance, asking for food. To be honest, I basically ignored her and kept walking. While we were in the store, I started thinking about the truth of the Word and how it is true and powerful regardless of how we feel. So I decided to get the lady some food.
When we were leaving the center, I was tempted to just give the lady the food and basically say, "Be warmed and filled." Well, I started thinking that I have Jesus living on the inside of me and He wants to minister to her regardless of how I feel. So, I asked her if she knew about Jesus and that He bore her sin and sickness. That opened the door for Lisa and I to minister to her right there as everyone was walking by and watching us.
I asked her if she had any sickness or pain in her body and she told me she had asthma. We noticed her wheezing as she spoke. So we told her that Jesus was going to heal her to show her that He was real and that He loves and cares for her. We prayed and she was instantly healed of her asthma. She was surprised and extremely blessed. She told us that she was hoping that people would give her money and that when she got enough she was going to buy some asthma medicine.
We told her that is how God operates. She didn't have to give us any money (like you have to for a witch doctor) and that God blessed her with food and healed her for free because Jesus already paid the price.
We don't know if we'll ever see her again, but that was a God-ordained opportunity that we could have easily missed. We encourage you to look for opportunities to minister to people. Opportunities are around us everyday, but unfortunately, we are often too occupied with life to see them.
It says in 1 John 3:8b, "For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil." In the Gospels, we see Jesus consistently doing good and ministering the Gospel to people. Let's be determined to live life on purpose with God's purpose for our lives using Jesus as our example. (Matt. 9:35; Acts 10:38; Matt. 9:37-38; Mark 16:14-18, 20)
There are other things that we would like to share with you, but we will save it for our next letter.
We would like to thank all of you for your faithfulness in supporting what God is doing here. Remember, none of this is possible without you. You make it possible to reach people with the Good News of the Gospel!
